Lesson 2: Choosing Trowels for Tile

• Always reference the Tile Council of North America when choosing trowels (0:10)
• The layer of dried thin-set between tile and substrate should be 3/32″ thick or more (0:15)
• Try to get 95% thin-set coverage in wet areas (0:38)
• For mosaics, start with 1/4″ x 3/16″ v-notch (0:50)
• The next size trowel for mosaics is 1/4″ x 1/4″ U or square notch (1:29)
• The next size trowel for larger tiles is 1/4″ x 3/8″ U or square notch (2:14)
• For even larger tiles try 1/2″ x 1/2″ U or square notch (2:30)
