How to Remove Old Laundry Tub Faucet
One of the worst parts of this project is removing the old faucet.

But I have a solution for you: WD-40 Easy Reach.
It has an 8-inch spray tube, which is awesome for tight spaces. Shake this up for about 10 seconds to get everything mixed.

Then, saturate the nuts and washers. In this case, there’s a plastic nut and metal washer, and they tend to corrode over time.
Plus, sometimes there are hard water deposits on them from minerals in the water.

So I saturate these with WD-40 and let that sit for 10 minutes.
Then, I use a basin wrench. These basin wrenches are fantastic if you have to change out a faucet.

They’re not very expensive; I use them to remove the supply lines, too.

You can also use the Ridgid faucet tool instead of the basin wrench. But I like having both.

This can be used for most faucet removals. I like this tool because it slides over the nuts, and you can easily remove them or get them loose.

Using these tools and the WD-40 will save you lots of time and aggravation. The old faucet will come right out of the laundry tub.

But I’m not done. You can see there is some plumbers putty and rust on the tub.

I also used WD-40 for that because the new faucet must make a tight seal.

If there’s splashing up from the laundry tub, that can get between the faucet and the tub and down below.
How to Install New Laundry Tub Faucet
It’s helpful to apply some silicone between this plastic gasket and the tub if you can.

If you don’t have that on hand, you’ll probably be okay, but it’s best to use silicone.
These are the nuts that come with this particular faucet, which I got from Lowe’s.

It was only about 29 bucks, and it’s very solid.
I add the nuts to the hot and cold water sides.

But I don’t tighten them all the way, and here’s the reason why:
I want to make sure that the faucet is centered and that it can freely swing back and forth.

Then I use the faucet installer tool to tighten up those nuts for both the cold and the hot water side.

Again, this is a great tool for that, especially if you don’t have much access. For example, I only have four or five inches of access here.
Then, I add the water supply lines back onto the faucet.

By the way, you don’t need any Teflon tape or pipe dope for this because there’s a rubber gasket inside most water supply lines that will make it watertight.
This same principle applies to toilet installations or bidet toilet seats.
Then, I use the basin wrench to turn the water supply line nut another quarter to half turn.
I like to hand-tighten these first, then I use the basin wrench to ratchet down on them; don’t tighten too much because this could create a water leak.
Run the water for both the hot and the cold water side for 2-3 minutes.

That way if you do have any leaks underneath, you’ll be able to see that and you can tighten down on water supply lines.

That’s how you install a laundry tub faucet. It’s probably one of the easiest installations you can do, but it all starts with getting that old faucet out.
Laundry faucet installation is just one project.
